Meet our Farmers: Naome Musiime

Another farmer feature from our trip to Uganda October 2021, coming atcha!

NAME: Naome Musiime

Role: Farmer + Chairwoman of the Isingiro Farmers group

Age: 49

Household: 4 children, 3 boys and 1 girl

How long have you been growing sweet plantains? 10 years

What else do you grow? Mango, avocado, paw paw, jackfruit.

When did you first start farming? When I was 12 years old, I learned from my parents. They showed me how they farmed.

What is the greatest challenge of being a farmer? Sunshine and natural elements.

What does a typical day in your life look like? Get up early morning, around 4am, head into the fields to start working, come back midday or early afternoon to fix lunch for the family, and head back to the farm for a few hours in the after noon before preparing dinner for the evening.

What does the partnership with Amazi Foods allow for you? With the higher prices that Amazi pays, I am able to pay school fees for my children.

What have you learned through our partnership? Better organic farming practices, and the value of making organic mulch.

Is there anything you would like to share with our customers in the US?! I have continued to plant more plantain trees!! We want to continue to be supported by the global market, and their support helps us farmers immensely!
